The Nor-Ton Red Jacket Club has provided low-cost camping and outdoor recreational opportunities to Western New York area children and youth since it took over the former Girl Scout Camp in 1986. We are an all-volunteer organization, with no paid staff. Our members raise all the costs of equipping, maintaining, and operating our facilities. We lease the 24.32 acres of Donald F. Miller Park from the New York State Canal Corporation.
We serve upwards of 5,000 area children each year in a variety of ways. In the last three years we have served hundreds of youth groups and other organizations, with groups coming from as far away as Rochester and Maryland to use our facilities. The Boys & Girls Club of the Northtowns use our camp all summer for their summer day camp. Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Brownies, Girl Scouts, church and school groups, and social organizations from all over Western New York make use of the park.
In September 2001 we began a campaign to puchase the land in order to assure its long term future as a camp for youth and preserve it in its natural state.
This web site will be used to help get our message across of how important Donald F. Miller Memorial Park is to the community, and we would greatly appreciate your help in reaching our goal of purchasing the land. We hope you will take the time to explore our little home on the web here, and maybe even become an avid visitor to our site. We have many big things in store for the area in the near future, and would love to include any available volunteers in our path of success.
Often members are asked by non-members what the Nor-Ton Red Jacket Club is all about. Most local people have heard of us. But not all know who we are or what we are all about.
The Nor-Ton Red Jacket Club, Inc., is a 501 (c) (3) not-for-profit corporation established in 1984. The Club’s mission is to provide low-cost camping and outdoor opportunities to area youth groups. We equip, maintain and operate a youth park, containing facilities for wholesome entertainment, instruction and social, athletic and sport opportunities under adult supervision in order to improve the physical health and the mental condition of children and youth. We seek to inculcate in children and youth a desire and ability to do things for themselves and others, to train them in outdoor skills and to teach them patriotism, courage, self reliance and kindred virtues; and to inculcate and promote friendship and civic responsibility among children and youth.
Providing youth affordable access to nature and related programs for decades.
